Top student bars in London to hang out with classmates

As one of the most popular cities in the world, you can expect London to have all kinds of bars and clubs. However, there are some specifically for students. These venues are operated or sponsored by universities, and you can visit them even if you are not their student.

These type of bars are a great opportunity to mingle with other students and enjoy terrific prices. That's just one of the many perks of studying in London. Check out our list of the best student bars below.

The Rocket

166-220 Holloway Road, N7 8DB

This relaxed café bar near London Metropolitan University is open night and morning, making it great for both work and play. We highly recommend their Freshers' Fairs in October, where new students can settle in and make new friends. They host many other events year-round which are worth checking out.

The Institute Bar

The Institute Bar, 20 Bedford Way - Level 4, WC1H 0AL

University College London hosts one of the liveliest student bars in London. This bar & kitchen has incredible cocktails and a pizza menu with vegan options. Best of all, the menu is very affordable and they welcome non-students with open arms.

Phineas Bar

25 Gordon Street, WC1H 0AY

If you prefer somewhere a little more spacious, UCL also offers the wonderfully unique Phineas. They have events running every week, such as pub quizzes, drag bingo, and themed music nights. Sports fans will appreciate their weekly Sports Nights.

The Three Tuns

Saw Swee Hock Student Centre, 1 Sheffield Street, WC2A 2AP

A historic venue that is still a popular hotspot for London's students. Enjoy live sports and outdoor seating in this cozy location known for its friendly atmosphere. This one is from the London School of Economics and managed entirely by its Student Union.

Guy’s Bar

Boland House, King's College London, SE1 9RT

King's College London has several bars, including the next one on our list, but this is their oldest by far – it's been around since 1882! We strongly recommend their Sports Nights and Gin Club which happens almost every week. This is both a bar and a club, so you can dance and enjoy live music.

The Vault

Bush House, King's College London, WC2B 4QN

On the other hand, you have KCL's newest venue. Don't be fooled by the daytime offerings in this trendy, modern space, as it is both a bar and a nightclub. Follow them on Instagram to keep up to date with their monthly events, such as quiz nights and mixer parties.

Thirsty Scholar

1 Park Crescent, W1B 1SH

A hidden gem, the Thirsty Scholar is a great place for late night coffees. It's also a venue for hire. Rather than a university, this one is hosted by International Student House, a charity that offers scholarship opportunities and accommodation to young people.

ħ-bar

Imperial College Road, SW7 2AZ

Imperial College London offers many venues but if we had to pick one, the curiously named ħ-bar would be it. They have regular guest ales, a street-style food menu, and new offers every day. As for us, we would be there for the karaoke!

The College Arms

18 Store Street, London, WC1E 7DH

Come for the cocktails, stay for the bottomless brunch: a 2 hour all-you-can-drink session for you and your guests. There are so many offers here, we can hardly list them all. This is one of the most affordable student bars, bar none. (See what we did there?)

The Roxy

3-5 Rathbone Place, W1T 1HJ

It is a basement bar but its biggest draw is the nightclub, specifically the Student Nights. We simply couldn't have a list without The Roxy. Enjoy their Happier Hour with drinks as low as £2.50. Try the sharing platters, you won't regret it! As a student in London, you must go here at least once.
